Arsène Kibukila

Founder, GAPSAfrica

“Education and peace are the foundation of a dignified future.”

Arsène Kibukila is a Congolese refugee and community leader based in the Nakivale Refugee Settlement in Uganda. Forced to flee conflict in 2016, his family lost everything—except a deep conviction that education and peace are the foundation of a dignified future.

In Nakivale, Arsène witnessed the daily realities facing refugee children: limited access to education, hunger, youth unemployment, and growing community tensions. Rather than wait for outside solutions, he chose to act.

Together with a small group of volunteers, Arsène began building a school from the ground up. What started with borrowed tarps and handmade bricks has grown into four classrooms serving more than 300 children today.

GAPSAFRICA is a refugee-led model of education, resilience, and peacebuilding—built from within the community it serves.
